In no more than 150 words, what does your business do and why should you make the Start Up Battle final?
On an icy Canadian morning, I realized that I was looking at something that wasn’t new, but just wasn’t being used the right way. Timber framed housing is used extensively in North America, and the technology for it has been refined over decades. It’s very strange that it’s not yet used as an African solution. On a continent where construction is an expensive process, wood offers a sustainable and much more affordable solution: a timber framed house can be 30%-35% more cost efficient than a brick-and-mortar house of comparable size. It’s fast and easy to assemble, and with the advances in wood construction technology, it’s permanent, durable and reliable. With the South African government wanting to create sustainable jobs in new and exciting industries, CDT Woodworks can offer a uniquely African solution to a continent-wide, sustainable living and housing problem. A prototype homestead can prove that CDT Woodworks’ concept can bring about real, meaningful and sustainable change throughout Africa - assisting, teaching, educating and developing.
